National Assisted Living Week

Last week was National Assisted Living Week.  Students at Fort Calhoun High School had several opportunities to interact with residents at Autumn Pointe Assisted Living. They participated in exercise programs including walking club where they were paired up with a resident to help them on their daily walk. Also, Mr. Hatcher took his History class and gave residents a chance to connect with the students through conversation as the residents discussed their real life history with the class. It was a fun week for all.

Reading Buddies

Reading Buddies:

The Fort Calhoun Elementary School has a program called Reading Buddies. Once a week, the upper grades pair up with the lower grades and read for 15 to 20 minutes. Our students enjoy the program and the older students do a great job asking the younger ones questions to get them engaged. This is a fun time for all of the kids.

Congratulations to Killian Roehr

Fort Calhoun student, Killian Roehr, is a member of the UNMC High School Alliance this year. He joins other students from high schools around Omaha to take college-level classes to prepare for health careers. He had to apply and go through an interview process to be admitted and he is the first Pioneer to be accepted into this competitive program. Killian wants to get an M.D. and become a surgeon or a researcher. He was featured in a UNMC Newsroom article. Great job Killian. Our New Front Door

The Fort Calhoun Jr/Sr High has a new front door and address. Our new address is 5876 County Road P43, Fort Calhoun, NE 68023. If you are traveling to school in a vehicle you will need to proceed past the old parking lot around the curve to our new entrance on P43. As you pull into the parking lot please take an immediate right hand turn, at that time you may turn left at any of the next three opportunities to park your vehicle. If you are dropping off a student please continue to the last left hand turn and proceed toward the school dropping your student off at the curb. Proceed to the very end and turn left to exit the parking lot.

If you are walking to school please use the new gate south of the goal post located by the sidewalk on 15th street. Once inside the track walk past the grandstand and take the sidewalk up to the school and continue around the building to the front entrance.

There are two important items to remember. Number one: Please do not walk around the curve on P43 to get to the school. Number two: No one is allowed to walk into the construction zone.

We are looking forward to having everyone back and are anticipating some new experiences. See you soon.
