The PLC students have enjoyed incubating eggs during the month of April. The eggs started hatching on April 13th.  During their visit to Autumn Pointe this week the PLC students surprised the residents with the new chicks.  Special thank you to Adam Bannister and his family for donating the eggs.

Midland University and Pinnacle Bank recognized 52 high school juniors at the 16th annual Pinnacle Bank Outstanding High School Leader Awards event Friday, April 1st at 11:30 a.m. at the Kimmel Theatre on Midland’s campus.

Schools from around the Fremont area participate in the Pinnacle Bank Leadership Awards each year. Students must be nominated and then apply to be considered for an award.

A panel of leaders from Midland University, Pinnacle Bank, and the Fremont community review applications and select recipients based on involvement, leadership roles, and attributes.

Recipients who are accepted, and decide to attend Midland University, will receive a $25,000 renewable scholarship for a total scholarship value of $100,000.

These are the winners of our PBIS raffle drawing for March.  We had almost 3,000 tickets put into the drawings. The students enjoy this program and it’s a great opportunity to celebrate positive behavior!

In class, the 6th Grade was talking about the respiratory system and how our lungs are powered by our diaphragm. In this activity, they used half a water bottle and two balloons. One of the balloons represented our lungs the other our diaphragm. As students pulled on the balloon representing the diaphragm down it would inflate the other balloon just like in our body and court lungs. This was a great hands-on activity for students to get to see how our body and organ actually work and how they must work together to accomplish their jobs for our bodies. 

James (Jamie) Schleifer was hired as the new Assistant Principal/Athletic Director effective July 1^st, 2022.  Mr. Schleifer is currently a special education teacher at Bennington Public Schools and has an extensive athletic and coaching background.  He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education in Indianapolis, Indiana.  He has a passion for building positive relationships and a strong culture with great communication, a caring attitude, and a growth mindset.  Please help us welcome Mr. Schleifer. 

The Fort Calhoun Vocal Music Department is putting on its first musical in 20 years! Come support our students and enjoy a HOWlING good time! Tickets can be purchased in advance from any high school choir member or at the door! 

Kindergarten Round Up will be Friday, April 8th and Friday April 22nd. See the image below for more important details. Please call the school office to verify that your child will or will not be coming these two days and/or if your child will not be attending kindergarten at Fort Calhoun next year. 402-468-5714.

The PLC young adults are getting physical in 2022!!  We were graciously gifted $1000 by the Nebraska Special Olympics towards the purchasing of exercise equipment.  These funds combined with support and financial backing by the administration and school board, we were able to renovate and improve our physical activity space.  We added 3 new pieces of exercise equipment, two free weight trees, workout mirrors, new paint, and an equipment storage cart.  Students are now enjoying at least 10-15 minutes of physical activity every day.

Also, we are participating in the 2022 Special Olympics Nebraska Winter Combine.  Students will be participating in weekly challenges in a variety of activities such as wall squats, sit-n-reach, and more.  We will crown a winner of each event and they will be awarded with a certificate for their accomplishments!  We can’t wait to have the students show off their physical skills.
